Masterclass Format

This VIRTUAL Masterclass will be delivered by IBICUS via ZOOM by a fully-trained leader. The timings are 09:00-13:30 UK time with a set-up / introductory meeting starting at 08:30 UK time.  Please note that IBICUS Masterclasses are not official IB PD workshops are any certificates issues do not count towards school authorisation and evaluation.

About the Masterclass

A task can be engaging and still produce weak evidence of the criterion it is meant to assess. Strong MYP assessment begins with clarity about what students must demonstrate, not simply with an attractive activity.

This masterclass examines how to design valid MYP assessment tasks that connect subject-group objectives, criterion strands, learning experiences and the evidence students produce. Participants will unpack criteria into observable evidence, examine the role of command terms and design tasks that give students a genuine opportunity to reach the full range of achievement. The session also addresses task-specific clarification, scaffolding, best-fit judgement, feedback and internal standardisation.

Participants will

• Translate objective strands and criteria into clear, observable evidence of learning.
• Design authentic tasks that allow students to demonstrate the full range of achievement.
• Align the stimulus, process, product and command terms with the intended criterion.
• Develop useful task-specific clarification without rewriting or narrowing the published criteria.
• Apply best-fit judgement and strengthen consistency through collaborative standardisation.

Practical outcomes

• A revised summative task with a clear criterion-to-evidence alignment map.
• A practical checklist for reviewing task validity, accessibility and level of challenge.
• A short moderation protocol that can be used within departments.
