Frequently Asked Questions - the FAQs
How much does it cost?
Fees for each workshop participant are £800 for bookings made up to 29 days before the event starts. Booking after this date costs £900. All prices are subject to additional VAT at the usual rate for the country in which the workshop event occurs. These rates are subject to change but currently given as Dubai 5%, UK 20% and Czech Republic 21%.
What happens if I cancel?
Our terms and conditions explain this in full detail. In summary, you can cancel before the workshop is confirmed, but if you cancel after the workshop is confirmed there are penalties and restrictions on your options.
If you decide to cancel the booking or part of a booking for whatever reason BEFORE the workshop is confirmed, you must tell us in writing or by email to email@example.com.
Prior to confirmation of the workshop, your cancellation will not incur liability for any fees due.
If you cancel after a workshop has been confirmed as going ahead, the full fees will still be payable, but you may nominate an alternative participant. Full payment of the course fees is still due, whether a substitute teacher or course is accepted by you or not.
If you make changes to your booking
Once the workshop subject is confirmed, you can change the name of your teacher in the same subject at the same event at any time and for no charge.
Other changes including change of subject, made earlier than 15 days before a workshop starts will incur a £50 administration fee. Other changes made later than 15 days before a workshop starts will incur a £150 administration fee.
What is included in the fee?
For all events, the booking fee includes 15 hours of tuition over 2.5 days, refreshment breaks throughout the event and 3-course lunches on Days 1 and 2, printed or digital workbook and resources and Certificate of Attendance.
For our UK event at Wellington College, 3 nights’ bed, breakfast and evening meal accommodation is available in single rooms in the College at an additional cost. This may be booked at the same time as your workshop booking.
Is the hotel included in the cost?
No. Travel to and from the venue and hotel accommodation are not included. Other than Wellington College accommodation, you must make your own booking directly with our chosen hotel or through a link on our website. We recommend booking via our links with the suggested IBICUS special offer hotels in Dubai and Prague as not only do they offer good value for money but we also provide free bus transfers to and from the workshop venue each day.
What about VAT?
All events attract VAT at the rate of the country they in which they occur. EU VAT registered schools may ask for an invoice without VAT on it, as they will pay VAT directly to their home country. VAT in the UK is 20%. VAT in the Czech Republic is 21%. VAT in Dubai is 5%. This is added to your invoice.
Which category workshop do I need?
That depends on your needs and experience.
Please see the WHICH WORKSHOP tab under WORKSHOP INFO on our website to read about Categories and types. You can also look at the IB Professional Development catalogue of workshops and resources.
What time does it start / finish?
Event timetables are on the website for each event. Generally, our events start at 09:00 on Day 1 with registration and ends at 12:30 on Day 3.
What if I get ill?
A school nurse is on site and on call throughout our events. Your hotel will provide details of what to do if you are unwell while staying there.
How do I get there?
Each event has an information booklet on our website with details of the host school location or you can download information and maps from the WORKSHOP VENUE tab under WORKSHOP INFO on our website.
What do I wear?
The events are informal dress code but take account of cultural sensitivities and weather conditions at each event. Generally, the weather in Dubai in April and September / October is very warm and slightly humid, although a cardigan or light jacket may be needed indoors in the air conditioning. The UK can be variable in October and as the campus is spread out, we recommend bringing a waterproof jacket and/or umbrella as well as warm clothing. The weather in Prague in February is normally very cold and we do recommend bringing a hat!
Who will be my workshop leader?
See the website subject page where your leader’s photo and biography are available or linked on this site.
How do I give you feedback?
We hope that you will talk to us on the HELP DESK if you have any comments – positive or negative – to offer. If you do have a problem or are unhappy in any way, please talk to us and we will always try to help. The IB will invite you to complete a full on-line survey soon after the workshop.
Are the workshops IB accredited?
Yes. IBICUS works in co-operation with the IB organization and all our workshops are IB accredited for authorization and evaluation purposes. All participants receive a IB certified Certificate of Attendance.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. We email you a pdf of your certificate after the workshop once your school has paid our invoice and you have completed the IB evaluation survey.
When should I book my hotel / flight?
Until a workshop is confirmed we strongly advise you not to make non-refundable bookings. You will be informed by email once your workshop is confirmed. You can then make your reservations and bookings. However, please also arrange travel insurance in case of unexpected cancellation, by us or by you.
What else can I do when I’m at an event?
Our UK venue is within 1 hour of central London by train and there is much to see and do there. We also offer Wellington College tours, a paper-based quiz in the College bar, a walking tour of the historic town of Windsor and a drinks reception.
There are all manner of things to do in Dubai – see our LEISURE TIME section for our sightseeing suggestions and the recommended evening tours on offer. These normally include a Dinner Cruise in the Dubai Marina, an Old and New Dubai City Tour and an Desert Safari and BBQ.
Prague has many classical music venues and museums; the Castle and Cathedral are well worth visiting. We also offer an evening walking tour during the event. See the LEISURE TIME section under WORKSHOP INFO tab for your workshop event.
