Workshop Format

This FACE-TO-FACE workshop will take place at Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, Dubai, UAE in association with Innoventures Education Training Centre.

Includes 15 hours of expert tuition over 2.5 days, with full resources and great food and refreshments

Timings: 08:30-16:30 on Days 1 and 2 and 08:30-12:15 on Day 3.

About the workshop
Category 1

The aim of this workshop is to provide teachers who are new to the IB with the knowledge, confidence and tools to begin teaching the subject.

This workshop is designed to help you to:

  • Develop an understanding of the IB’s history, mission, learner profile, programmes and international focus
  • Recognise the importance of the IB Learner Profile and approaches to teaching and learning in the DP and CP
  • Consider how the course connects with Theory of Knowledge (ToK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the CP context; understand the basis of the Extended Essay and the role of the EE supervisor
  • Develop inquiry-based teaching and learning strategies for the DP / CP classroom
  • Plan course outlines that meet curriculum requirements, assessment objectives and relevant standards
  • Design engaging learning activities that help students explore key curriculum concepts and content
  • Understand the assessment requirements for the subject and create formative assessments that prepare students for summative assessments
  • Learn how to use IB teaching resources and collaborate through programme communities; choose and evaluate resources that support effective IB teaching and learning
  • Promote academic integrity in the classroom

Category 1 workshops focus on IB philosophy and implementation.  They are ideal for anyone new to the IB or pursuing a career at an established IB World School and essential for teachers from candidate schools preparing for authorisation. 

Category 2

This workshop is designed for Diploma Programme (DP) teachers who have prepared students for at least one DP exam session.  The focus is on teaching, learning, and assessment practices and sharing best practice in the classroom

This workshop is designed to help you to:

  • Apply the IB Programme standards and practices to subject delivery
  • Strengthen collaborative planning and reflections to deepen links with the DP Core (TOK, CAS, and the Extended Essay)
  • Deepen understanding of the Extended Essay, including the role of the supervisor
  • Integrate approaches to teaching and learning, the learner profile, and international-mindedness into subject teaching
  • Design inquiry-based, formative learning experiences that develop self-regulated and metacognitive learners
  • Enhance assessment literacy by applying IB criteria, addressing assessment challenges, and using subject reports to improve student achievement
  • Monitor and support student progress through effective recording, reporting, and feedback strategies
  • Incorporate current IB publications, Teaching Support Materials (TSM), and Programme Resource Centre resources into classroom practice
  • Reflect on your role in programme evaluation and effective horizontal and vertical curriculum planning
