Jonathan Newell

Jonathan has experienced a wide-ranging career in education in the UK, Norway, Cairo and Vienna. Jonathan has also been active in Higher Education for over ten years, as a lecturer and course leader at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, UK, and the University of Oxford, UK, where he was Director of College Music and an undergraduate tutor at Brasenose College. He was also a music grade examiner up to Fellowship level for 14 years.      As the Chief Examiner for Music worldwide for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, he was a member of the IB’s examining board, and was the author of the Diploma Music chapter in "Introducing the IB Diploma" (Cambridge University Press, 2012).Jonathan has also been a member of several IBDP curriculum reviews, including that for the Extended Essay (generic). His work also includes various commissions from educational organisations - he is a designated Lead Educator for the International Baccalaureate Educator Network (IBEN), and a designated Consultant Lead Trainer for Cambridge Assessment International Education. He is also a workshop leader for the IBDP in Music and Extended Essays.     Jonathan currently lives in Oxford, England, where he is Organ Tutor at Magdalen College School. He combines this in situ post with his lively freelance international educational consulting and teacher training/INSET portfolio across a wide range of disciplines. He is an honorary fellow of the Cambridge Society of Musicians, awarded for distinguished services to music and music education in the UK, a fellow of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He is also a qualified massage therapist and rescue diver, when time permits!
