This FACE-TO-FACE workshop will take place at Raffles World Academy, Dubai.

The timings are 08:30-16:30 on Days 1 and 2 and 08:30-12:15 on Day 3.

About the workshop

The workshop is suitable for any teacher of IBDP History who is interested in improving their understanding of the internal assessment requirements of the current subject guide.  You do not have to have completed a Cat 1 or Cat 2 workshop to attend. Teachers new to the DP are very welcome, but should be aware that this workshop focuses solely on the Internal Assessment, and will not look at the teaching or assessment of other parts of the course.

The areas covered in the workshop will include understanding the nature and requirements of the internally assessed component of history, the content, characteristics and presentation of the internal assessment reports written by candidates, understanding the assessment criteria for internal assessment reports in history and academic honesty in internal assessment. You will investigate and discuss ideas that assist students and teachers in meeting the requirements of history internal assessment and simulate assessing examples of internal assessment. Additionally, you will develop resources and strategies that can be used with students to encourage and guide them in meeting the requirements of internal assessment in history and the assessment of reports with a discussion of the marks awarded.

Participants will:

  • ensure that they are familiar with the purpose, structure and requirements of the IA;
  • identify methods to ensure that students have focused, well-crafted questions, which will allow them to access the highest bands in the marking criteria;
  • complete in-depth marking exercises for each section of the IA, looking closely at how the mark scheme is applied to real student work and analysing the reasons for students’ success;
  • share classroom activities to develop the skills which will lead to success in each section of the IA, including source evaluation, research, essay writing and reflection;
  • consider the importance of academic honesty in relation to the IA and share strategies to promote good practice; and
  • design IA processes for use in their own classroom.
