About this Workshop

OVERALL PURPOSE OF WORKSHOP

To provide a forum for experienced IB educators to focus on ways to improve programme delivery, assessment, teaching and learning.

• Experienced economics teachers from IB World Schools

 

LEARNING EXPECTATIONS

The workshop should encourage and enable participants to:

  • Consolidate understanding of key features that lead to successful implementation of the IB DP, including Approaches to teaching and learning
  • Unpack elements of the IB Programme standards and practices (C) as a guide for decisions regarding delivery of the programme
  • Engage with current IB publications on the programme resource centre and determine any changes to be integrated into the teaching of economics
  • Review and share strategies that support successful collaborative planning and reflection (standard C1) thus deepening links with theory of knowledge (TOK) and the learner profile while promoting an internationally minded learning environment
  • Create teaching and learning strategies that develop self-regulated learners and metacognitive thinkers
  • Discuss and share strategies to promote academic honesty
  • Design appropriate inquiry questions to guide inquiry (factual, conceptual and debatable)
  • Discuss any challenges associated with assessment of economics and consider strategies to address these
  • Standardize understanding of how to arrive at a judgment using a common assessment task and published criteria
  • Analyse assessment data and IB subject reports to promote student achievement
  • Discuss successful strategies for recording and reporting ongoing student progress in the subject group
  • Design formative learning engagements that will equip students with the required factual, procedural and conceptual knowledge that support the summative assessment task(s)
  • Consolidate understanding of the assessment and supervision requirements for the extended essay, including the mandatory reflection sessions and Reflections on planning and progress form (RPPF)
  • Use the resources available via the programme resource centre and contribute to the IB communities to foster global professional learning communities
  • Promote professional learning communities in school to facilitate the transfer of professional development
  • Reflect on the teacher’s role in programme evaluation
