Alan Marshall

With a doctorate in Germanic Studies and a post-graduate diploma in EFL, Alan spent 10 years teaching English and Translation Studies at schools and universities in Germany, Austria, Portugal and Spain, before returning to UK schools and German teaching at the end of the 1980s. He worked with IB schools and specialist Language Colleges in the south, including 7 years as a Head of Languages before leaving full-time teaching to establish himself as a freelance language consultant, translator and interpreter.  Alan is highly experienced in IB assessment. He is also active as an examiner with other UK boards. While Head of Languages he began to develop and deliver training courses for language teachers in the area, and has since 2009 extended this into the delivery of IB workshops. He is currently also involved in teaching English and German in the commercial sector and in local language schools, alongside continuing work as a translator and being Chairman of the Bournemouth Interpreters’ Group CIC, which provides interpreters and translators to the public and voluntary sector. He is also a co-author of Deutsch im Einsatz from CUP, a textbook written specifically for IB German B.
