John Royce
Academic Honesty / Extended Essays / Librarians
John has worked in Zambia, England, Malawi, and Germany, and is currently working in Turkey. He started out as a teacher, but, required to take over the library in his school, enjoyed it so much that he changed the direction of his career. He qualified as a librarian some 30 years ago, and later obtained a Masters degree in Library Management. He has 16 years experience in IB schools.
John has three times been chair of the ECIS Librarians’ Committee, has been a Regional Director on the IASL board, has served on other library committees, and has had several papers and articles published in the professional press. A guide to good practice in documenting sources, Credit where it’s due: the school library preventing plagiarism, was published by the School Library Association in Spring 2011.
His interest in academic honesty stems from an attempt ten years ago to update his school’s Short Guide to Bibliographic Citation. That, combined with an interest in Internet search engines, led to experience in plagiarism detection, which rapidly became an interest in plagiarism prevention, then to academic honesty in all its contexts.
That all-round experience proved invaluable in January 2010, when he was recruited to put together from scratch a three-day workshop on Generic Extended Essay. The appointed workshop leader had dropped out less than 72 hours before the workshop was due to start! John believes he works well under pressure, and this surely proves the point.
In November 2011, John won the IASL School Librarianship Award. This award is the premier recognition of services to school libraries internationally.
Samir Haikal

Dr Samir Haikal has been Associate professor, Arabic Dept. at the College of Arts, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman since 1989. Prior to that, he has held teaching and lecturing posts in Britain, Jordan and Oman, including Arabic language instructor and lecturer at St. Antony's College, Oxford University and Head of Arabic Studies, Millfield School, Somerset, Great Britain. He has been an IB Workshop Leader since 1995 for Arabic A1 workshops in Jordan, Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt and Greece. Since then, he has been a team leader and examiner responsible to examine and moderate all Arabic A1 components. He also has been an active member of the curriculum development committees.

Hebatalla Salem
Arabic A2
Hebatalla Salem, M.A. in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, where she also earned a B.A. in mass communications with a minor in psychology. She currently teaches various levels of Egyptian Colloquial and Modern Standard Arabic at the Arabic Language Institute at AUC. Heba has participated in developing computer-assisted teaching materials, a web site for reading materials, and listening materials for Aswat Arabia. She is coauthor of a book on Colloquial Arabic that is being developed. She has also lead several teacher training workshops at AUC and in other countries in the Middle East, Europe and Latin America. Heba also works for the International Baccalaureate as a standardizer and an examiner responsible.
Shahira Yacout
Arabic B
Shahira Yacout is an Arabic instructor at the American university in Cairo. She holds masters degree in Teaching Arabic as a foreign Language from the American university in Cairo. She works with the International Baccalaureate Organization since 2004. Shahira’s experienced leader is in Arabic B. She has lead many workshops for the American university and the IBO. For the IB she led work shops in Qatar and Dubai and has participated in curriculum development committees.
Chris Hall
Biology
Chris Hall is an IB Higher and Standard Biology teacher at Malvern College, an independent boarding school in Worcestershire, UK, where he is also Head of Science and Head of Biology. He has been teaching the IB for approximately 20 years. He is a senior examiner for Higher Paper 3, and marks Higher Paper 2. He is a principal moderator for IA (the internally assessed coursework). Chris also writes and edits feedback reports and also reports for schools that wish to have the assessment of coursework explained in detail (IMRs). Chris sets papers and attends mark scheme standardisation and grade award meetings in Cardiff. He is involved in the next round of curriculum review for Internal Assessment. Chris is also an ISI Schools Inspector and am one of those called upon to inspect schools that offer the IB Diploma.
Carol Meyer
Biology
Carol has spent her educational career overseas in Africa and the Middle East, starting out as a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya. She has been involved with IBDP Biology for the past 20 years. She is currently completing her fifth year as Deputy Chief Examiner for Biology which involves assessment as well as curricular responsibilities. Carol has also been involved as a workshop leader for face-to face workshops for many years in the IBAEM region and an online mentor for workshops on IA as well. She is a Senior Moderator/Team Leader for IA as well as a Senior Examiner for HL and SL Papers 2 and 3.
Lloyd Gutteridge
Business and Management
Lloyd Gutteridge has been teaching Business and Management for 20 years in the UK, Singapore and New Zealand. He is currently a senior examiner with the IBO for both the May and November examination sessions, an online mentor for the Extended Essay and moderator for Internal Assessment. He is the author of a new Study Guide for Business and Management (published by Oxford University Press) written especially for the new syllabus which was assessed for the first time in 2009.
Loykie Lomine
Business and Management
Dr Loykie Lominé is the IB Chief Examiner for Business Management. He has worked in several countries including Austria, Australia and France; he now lectures at the University of Winchester in England. Susanna Agostini
CAS
Susanna is an IB Diploma graduate at the United World College of the Adriatic (1985), and a CAS person: Creatively merged a translator diploma, a degree in political sciences, a specialisation in sociology, a marketing expert certificate, and a master in intercultural mediation applied to health and welfare systems.
Actively involved in development, international cooperation, and fostering, she volunteered in Canada, East Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Slovenia, Ireland and Italy.
Service and Special Projects Coordinator back at the United World College in 1999, she founded the school’s Volunteer Work Association “Mondo 2000”.
As consultant for institutional links with volunteer agencies, she took part in EU funded “Habitat” Project on behalf of the city government of Trieste. The results were published. As cultural mediator expert, she has been responsible for the training of high-school teachers in Jordan and Israel as part of the “One more step towards peace” educational EU project run by I.C.U. since 2007. As CAS expert, she has been involved in school CAS monitoring and counselling, and has led CAS workshops: for the IB since 2002, and for Ibicus since 2007.
Nick Lee
Chemistry
Nick Lee is a long-term IB practitioner, having at various times been Head of Science, Director of Studies and DP Coordinator at one of the UK's most experienced IB schools, an examiner for ToK, a workshop leader for DP coordination, and an examiner, team leader, principal examiner and workshop leader for Chemistry, and an Authorization Visit team member. He is now working half time as the IBSCA / IBAEM University Liaison Officer, and half time as an independent consultant.
Henriette Groot Antink
CAS
After working as a nurse for many years Henriette changed her profession towards teaching at the International Secondary School of Eindhoven the Netherlands, ISSE (future name isecampus). She already realised one can look at life from many different perspectives (like Arthur Dent from Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"). Working in an international environment broadened her horizon even more. It gave her the possibility to integrate two of her passions, her love for language and her love for people. Henriette integrated her former profession in her new job by taking the role of student counsellor. From the beginning she was fascinated by the Community and Service programme of the MYP which she helped to construct. It was only a natural step to take the role of CAS Coordinator. For several years Henriette has been collaborating with the IBO now in her role as CAS workshop leader. She has seen the benefits of the Experiential Service learning through self-reflection program and finds it an extremely worthwhile cause. In the upcoming year Henriette will be employed by the HU In the Netherlands where she will be engaged with issues of Global Health for All and International Health Studies for students of the Bachelor for Nursing.
Mike Ford
Chemistry
Mike Ford has been teaching IB Chemistry since 1992 in the UK, France and Switzerland. He is IB Deputy Chief Examiner in Chemistry, and Assistant Examiner in TOK . He has led IB Diploma workshops in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the United States. Mike also teachers IB Physics and is currently the Secondary School Coordinator at the International School of Lyon, France.
Mike is co-author of the IB Chemistry text books for Pearson.

Steve Martin
DP Coordination
Steve is currently Assistant Head Teacher in charge of Post 16 Education and DP Coordinator at St. Christopher's School Bahrain where he lives with his wife Trish (who teaches DP History and English) and daughter, Catherine. He teaches TOK and HL/SL Geography and also GCSE Geography.
After 3 years teaching at a Girls' grammar school in Surrey, Steve taught in Kenya for a year before moving on to Bahrain, Manila, Hong Kong and then back to Bahrain. He first encountered IB at ISM Manila where he was Curriculum Leader in Social Studies and become thoroughly "hooked" by the IB philosophy. Moving on from Manila he was part of a small team preparing a school for Authorization in Hong Kong.
After returning to Bahrain he led his current school through the Authorization process in 2008 and the first cohort of IB graduates completed the Diploma Programme in May 2010. Steve is particularly interested in working with universities to promote an understanding of the value of IB as a rigorous and relevant pre-university education.
He is currently working on an MA in International Education with Bath University incorporating the IB Teacher Award Scheme.
Ian Dorton
Economics
Ian Dorton holds an undergraduate degree from Aston University and a postgraduate certificate from Birmingham University. He currently teaches Economics at the American International School of Vienna, having previously headed the departments of Economics and Business at both Sevenoaks School in the UK, and the United World College of Singapore. He has been teaching IB economics for 23 years and has been involved with IB assessment for 21 years. He is currently Principal Examiner for IB Economics, working with Standard Level Paper 2 and Extended Essays. He is an IB paper setter and has been a member of the last two IB Economics curriculum review committees. He has led IB Economics workshops in Europe, Asia, Australasia, and North America. He has published a number of books including Economics: A Course Companion, a joint venture between Oxford University Press and the IBO, which he co-authored with Jocelyn Blink. He has just written two revision books, published by the IBO, also co-authored with Jocelyn Blink.
Gareth Rees
Economics
Gareth Rees is Vice Principal of Atlantic College in South Wales. He has taught IB Economics for 26 years and has been a workshop leader for nearly 20. He was Deputy Chief Examiner from 1997 to 2002 and has been a question setter and examiner for all types of assessment including the Extended Essay. With Charles Smith he wrote Economic Development, Macmillan, 1998. He also examines IB World Studies and is a member of the IB Regional office school authorization team. His CAS commitment is running an RNLI station. From September 2010 he will be the Chief Examiner for IB Economics.
John Phillips
Economics
Dr. John Phillips has been a teacher of Economics since 1980 at the International School of Geneva, La Grande Boissière campus, where he is also the IB Diploma Coordinator. He holds a BA (Econ) Honours. Degree from the University of Manchester, UK and was awarded a Doctorate in Education (International Education) by the University of Bath, UK, in 2007, having previously completed his MA in Education there. He has acted as a DP workshop leader a number of times and has advised on IB Economics curriculum development, notably Internal Assessment.
Jocelyn Blink
Economics
A native of Canada, Jocelyn holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Economics and Political Studies and a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University in Canada. Jocelyn has been teaching IB Economics at the Vienna International School (VIS) since 1991 , having previously taught in Nigeria and Canada. Last year, she took up the post of IBDP Coordinator at VIS. From 2001-2007, she was one of the Deputy Chief Examiners for Economics at the IB, and she is currently the Principal Examiner for HL Paper 3 and Extended Essays. With Ian Dorton, Jocelyn co-wrote the Oxford University Press Economics Course Companion and the IB Prepared revision books for HL and SL Economics. In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, reading , drinking white wine, playing Scrabble and watching Manchester United play football (a habit picked up from her twin sons), but probably not in that order!]
Dermot Gilvary
English A Literature
Dermot Gilvary has taught English language and literature at Oakham School, Rutland, for many years. He is involved in teacher-training for IBAEM, for Ibicus International and for the English and Media Centre (London, UK), and he is a Senior Examiner for the IB. At Oakham he has contributed to the development of the International Baccalaureate; he also worked on the design of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and he was deeply involved at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He was editor of Dr. Brigitte Timmermann's The Third Man's Vienna (2005), and currently he is editing a collection of essays on Graham Greene to be published in the USA in 2010. He is the author of the farcical comedy Trouble at t' Test (2007), and he is planning another play, this time on an aspect of Greene. He is the director of the Graham Greene International Festival.
Brad Philpot
English A Language & Literature
Since 2000, Brad Philpot has taught English in an international setting. Since 2005 he has taught IB Diploma English (formerly A2) and Theory of Knowledge in Amsterdam. Originally from the US, he earned a Masters in English Literature and Linguistics from the University of Amsterdam. Brad has worked as a consultant for bilingual schools in the Netherlands, and has offered workshops for students and teachers since 2008. He is an IB examiner and workshop leader for the English Language and Literature Diploma Programme. He is the author of English Language and Literature for the IB Diploma (Cambridge University Press).
Tina Shobbrook
English A Literature
“On occasions I am an examiner and workshop leader but my core profession is teaching. My interest has always been in methodology; delivering and differentiating the best possible programme in the best possible way. How we develop our programme is an important consideration but how we develop our students and our working practices is more important.”
Tina Shobbrook is head of English at the International School of Brussels where she has taught since 2000. Previously, she spent ten years at the International school of Vienna where she was deputy head of English. She has also taught in various schools in the UK. She has been teaching IB for more than 15 years: A1, A2 and Language B. She is an IB examiner and team leader and had led several A1 workshops.
David James
English A Literature
Dr David James was Head of English at Haileybury College – an IB World School - for five years before becoming Director of IB at Wellington College, where he has been responsible for overseeing the introduction of both the Diploma and MYP. He has written several textbooks on World War 1 literature, and is at the moment developing resources for Cambridge University Press’s new range of IB support material, including a textbook and website for English A1.
Dan Lamken
English A Literature
Daniel Lamken is a teacher and Curriculum Team Leader of Upper School English, in his thirteenth year at the International School of Prague. Besides core preparations for grades ten, eleven and twelve, Daniel has been the school’s DP coordinator, Model United Nations adviser and curriculum developer for English-based electives. Daniel has been an IB examiner for 8 years and a senior teacher at IB revision courses internationally. He is currently working toward his second graduate degree, a Masters in International Education through Endicott College.
Catrin Anthony

Catrin is a teacher at Atlantic College where she has taught English A2 for the last ten years. For five years she was the IB Deputy Chief Examiner for English A2 and is now a Principal Examiner, with particular responsibilities for Paper 1 and Written Tasks. Catrin has led IB Workshops in English A2, mainly in Latin America and The Netherlands.

Currently Deputy Head Upper School at the International School of the Hague, Katrin has been a workshop leader for 9 years leading DP workshops for the IB and IBICUS. Previously she was Head of Department at Sevenoaks School. She has also been an IB DP examiner for 10 Years. Her cooperation with the IB also includes contributing to curriculum development in Languages A2 at review meetings and at meetings generating Teacher’s support material.
Jonathan Newell
Enquiry Based Learning for the Diploma Programme / Extended Essays / Music
Jonathan has experienced a wide-ranging musical and teaching life both in the UK and in Norway, Cairo and Vienna. He has worked in Higher Education at Trinity College of Music London and was also on the panel of music examiners for Trinity Guildhall international examinations for 14 years.
Jonathan’s work for the IB currently encompasses being the Chief Examiner for Music for the IB Diploma Programme, and regularly leads teacher-training workshops for the IB around the world. He has also trained teachers from all subject disciplines as new workshop leaders for the IBDP in Sydney Australia, Geneva Switzerland, and the UK. He is an IBDP schools exams inspector, a member of the IB’s Schools Authorisation Visit team, and a mentor and developer for online workshops. Other responsibilities are as a global session observer for workshops, and Field Representative (Academic) for the Africa, Europe and Middle East region.
Jonathan lives in Oxford, England, where he is Director of Music at Brasenose College, Oxford University, and Organ Tutor at Magdalen College School He also directs ArtsInsight, an educational consultancy for the performing arts in education (www.artsinsight.net).
Jonathan holds a Master's degree in Choral Education from the University of Surrey, England, is an Honorary Fellow of the Cambridge Society of Musicians, awarded for distinguished services to music and music education in the UK, and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Alistair Robertson
Environmental Systems & Societies
Alistair Robertson studied biological sciences in South Africa including M.Sc. based on 2 years with vultures. Teaching experience includes IB Biology, Environmental Systems and Theory of Knowledge in Swaziland and in teacher education in Canada - following Ph.D. in science education with research interest in eco-philosophy. Currently academics director & DPC, teaching IB Biology, Environmental Systems & Societies & Theory of Knowledge at Red Cross Nordic UWC in Norway. ES examiner since 1989 and team leader for ESS Paper 2; interests include family, birding and rock-climbing/mountaineering.
Wayne Shackelford
Film
Wayne Shackelford holds degrees from the University of Virginia and The New York Film Academy. In the past 15 years, he has taught Spanish language, several science disciplines, and courses in Film, Digital Audio Production and Multimedia around the world. He began teaching the IB Film course in São Paulo, Brazil in 2005 and continues today at the International School of Prague, where he also serves as the Upper School I.T. Integration Specialist. Wayne is an examiner and workshop leader for the International Baccalaureate and a Certified Pro Trainer for Apple Computer and the Final Cut Pro editing platform.
Ann Abrioux
French B
Ann Abrioux has taught French B, French ab initio and English B within the International Baccalaureate programme for many years. She holds several positions including those of deputy Examiner Responsible (French ab initio) and team leader (French B). Ann has participated in three consecutive curriculum reviews and has led workshops since 1992 in all parts of the world. She is currently the faculty member responsible for the Online Curriculum Centre for French B, ab initio and other languages B and ab initio.
Adam Williams
Geography
Adam Williams read Geography at Durham University (BSc), specialising in Coastal Geomorphology, Palaeo-environments and Environmental change. His teaching career started at Bradfield College, Berks, UK, where he become Head of Department. He moved to Oakham School, Rutland, UK, to continue as a Head of Department before switching to the post of Housemaster. He has taught the IB for 9 years.
He enjoys a range of sports (notably golf and cricket) as well as travel – somewhat constrained by a young family at present though….
John Israel
French B / Extended Essays
John studied at Bristol and Bordeaux Universities and holds Masters Degrees in French Literature, Education and Education Management and a Doctorate in IB Assessment and Evaluation. He teaches French at a bilingual national school in Istanbul and works as a Model United Nations Advisor, having developed both junior and French-medium MUN conferences in Turkey. John has wide experience of teaching languages, cinema and literature in schools and universities in six countries, including beginners to native speakers as students. An experienced IB examiner, team leader and curriculum reviewer for French B, and an examiner for the Extended Essay in Peace and Conflict Resolution, he has led many workshops, and is currently developing the series of workshops to be offered by the IB in MUN as a means for bridging between the MYP and DP. John has also published various course materials and articles, both academic and practical, concerning language teaching, learning and assessment. His latest publication, co-authored with Christine Trumper, is in the Oxford University Press’ series of Course Companions for the IB’s Diploma Programme French B.
Peter Kino
German B / A2
Pete has taught HL and SL German B at Sevenoaks School for 20 years and more recently also A2. He is Deputy Examiner Responsible for German B and had contributed to the last two Language B curriculum review committees. He is a very experienced German B workshop leader, having led over 50 workshops over the years in Europe, North America and Singapore. He loves meeting and sharing ideas and experiences with other German teachers from around the world.
Paul Aston
History Route 1
After the previous twelve years of teaching IB and A level History and Theory of Knowledge in Luxembourg, Bedford and Beirut, since 2007 Paul has been teaching at Lycee Ombrosa, a French school with an international section, just outside Lyon. He has been an assistant examiner for the IB History programme since 2002 and, since 2007, a team leader. After reaching satiety with the 20th century, he grabbed the chance to pursue Route 1.
Fuad Prins
History Route 1 / DP Coordination
Fuad Prins is currently the IB Diploma Coordinator at Naseem International School, Bahrain, a position he has held for the past 8 years at the school. He has 10 years of experience with the IB Diploma and has also been involved with the implementation of the MYP at the school. He teaches Islamic History, English A1, English A2 and TOK. Fuad has experience as OCC faculty member for Islamic history and is an experienced examiner for Islamic history / History Route 1. He was actively involved in the curriculum review process of the new 2010 History Curriculum, Subject Guide and Teacher’s Resource Material. Fuad has also recently been appointed as an accreditation visiting member for the IB Diploma. He is presently sitting for his Master’s Degree in Education with a special focus on Curriculum with the College of New Jersey.
Shannon Leggett
History Route 2
Shannon is originally from Vancouver, Canada where she received her double major in History and Political Science from the University of British Colombia. She has been teaching IB History since 1991, initially in Canada and at the International School of Prague since 1998. She is a Paper 2/3/IA/Extended Essay examiner and DP History/TOK workshop leader for IBAEM, IBICUS and IBSCA. She was commissioned to write a companion History IB Europe text for the new IB History course, parts of whcih are used in her workbooks. Shannon has also written companion educational materials for the 1989 Czechoslovak Velvet Revolution documentary, "The Power of the Powerless".
John Fern
History Route 2
John is currently Deputy Head and IB Co-ordinator at King Edward’s School, Birmingham. He was IB Co-ordinator at Fettes College for the past four years and Head of History at Oakham School before this. He has been a workshop leader in History for the IB, IBICUS and IBSCA for four years and an IB DP examiner and team leader for six years.
Peter Jackson
History Route 2
Peter Jackson is currently a Teacher of History and Economics at the British International School of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, having previously been at Rydal Penrhos in the UK as Head of History and prior to that at international schools in Yokohama, Japan and Colombo, Sri Lanka. Peter has been an IB History examiner since 1993 and an IB approved workshop leader for this subject since 2004. He was appointed examination team leader in 2009.
Joanna Thomas
History Route 2
Jo Thomas is Head of History and Politics at the British School of Brussels. Previous to this, she has been Head of History at both United World College of South East Asia in Singapore and Munich International School. In all she has a total of 15 years IB teaching experience. She is also an IBO examiner and IBO workshop leader. Jo has co-written an IB text-book on The Cold War and is currently working on a second.
Sue Austin
Implementing the Diploma Programme / Administrators
After a number of years working as a language teacher and administrator in Africa and Europe, Sue was IBDP Coordinator for eight years at 2005 at Sevenoaks School, overseeing the transition to an exclusively IB sixth form. She taught French Italian and TOK there, and subsequently at the Leigh CTC; she is a TOK examiner. Sue is a member of the steering committee of IBSCA and has represented IB interests to UCAS besides leading sessions at IB conferences. She runs IB-authorized workshops for IBDP Coordinators and Administrators as well as Italian Ab Initio teachers. She has advised a number of British schools on the introduction of the IB Diploma and leads Authorization Visits. She is currently working as IBDP Coordinator with a faith school in west London which started the programme in 2008.
Alessandra Symons
Italian ab initio
Alessandra Symons has a degree in Physics (Univ. Milan, Italy), an MSc in Engineering (Bristol) and a PGCE (Greenwich) and after several years spent researching in Industry and Academia in Britain, she has moved into teaching. Currently teaching Italian at Sevenoaks School, UK, she has previously taught Italian and the IB for Kent County Council. She is an Italian Ab Initio Examiner for the IB.
David Cousens
ITGS / Theory of Knowledge
David has been teaching for over 25 years. He is currently Head of IT and coordinator of the EduTec E-learning development project at the Koç School in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a Senior Examiner for ITGS, an Assistant Examiner for TOK and a registered IB Workshop Leader. He leads workshops in both subjects for IBICUS International and the IB. David has been part of the Curriculum Review Committee for ITGS and Computer Science.

Holly Eckhardt read Classics at Trinity College, Cambridge where she also completed her P.G.C.E in Classics. She has been teaching IB Latin and Greek for 6 years. She is currently the Head of Classics at Manchester Grammar School, having previously run departments at Oakham School and Bolton School.
Darryl Toerien
Librarians
Darryl is Head of Library and Information Services at Oakham School in England.
Having made his way into school librarianship from teaching, he has become firmly convinced that the school library is primarily and fundamentally an academic department with a unique teaching function. This fact, he believes, requires a truly profound paradigm shift, and he has devoted himself to understanding the ideological barriers to making this shift as well as the reality of a school that has fully embraced it. He is particularly pleased to be an IBDP workshop leader because he believes that the Diploma Programme, in terms of its philosophy and structure, both necessitates and facilitates this paradigm shift, and as such represents a golden opportunity for librarians.

Anna Vibeke Eilert
Mandarin ab initio
Anna Vibeke Eilert, currently the Co-ordinator of Chinese Studies at King’s College School at King’s College School in London, is passionate about languages, culture and language acquisition. Born of Swedish and Danish parents, she grew up in Australia and Japan. As part of her IB Diploma, she studied Japanese and French at Standard and Higher Level. After completing her Bachelor of Arts in Literature in the USA, she spent a year teaching English at East China Normal University in Shanghai. While pursuing her Master of Arts in Comparative Literature at the University of Copenhagen, she continued to work and travel intermittently in China. Anna Vibeke joined KCS as a teacher of English in 2003, and simultaneously implemented a Chinese programme, which has grown to accommodate over 120 students.
Josip Harcet
Maths HL
Josip Harcet has taught all four Mathematics subjects at various schools within Europe since 1992. He has been an IB assistant examiner for SL and HL since 1998. He has marked Paper2, Paper 3 and he has bee an IA moderator. Josip held a position of a Deputy Chief Examiner for Further mathematics SL from 1999-2004. Since 2005 he has been a member of a Senior Examiner Team, a team leader for Paper 3 HL. Since 1998 Josip has been leading IB workshops in Mathematics SL, HL and Further mathematics SL within Europe, Africa, Middle East and North America. He has also led workshops for graphic display calculators and student revision courses.
Lorraine Heinrichs
Maths HL
Lorraine Heinrichs has been teaching Mathematics HL and ToK for the past 13 years at Bonn International School. She has held the position of IB DP coordinator for the past 9 years. Prior to moving to Germany, she lived in Malta, Rwanda and Montserrat in the Caribbean. Lorraine has been a senior moderator for IB Maths HL since 2004 and has held IB workshops in Switzerland, Romania, Africa and Malta.
Suzanne Unsworth
Maths SL
Suzanne Unsworth is a Maths teacher with twenty years teaching experience, having taught IB Mathematics at Standard Level, for the past 14 years. She has also been involved in teaching the MYP during her time spent as MYP Coordinator at the International School of Dusseldorf, Germany. She returned to the UK five years ago after teaching internationally for 14 years (Verdala International School, Malta, Amman Baccalaureate School, Jordan and the International School of Dusseldorf). She currently teaches at Felsted School, a boarding school in the East of England and teaches IGCSE and A level as well as IB.
Suzanne has been an IB examiner for the past 11 years, during which time she held the post of Deputy Chief Examiner for Mathematics SL. She is currently a senior examiner for IA and script marking in the role of team leader for IA and Paper 2 . Suzanne has been leading workshops for Mathematics SL since 2003, and during this time has lead workshops for IBAEM, IBNA, Florida League of IB Schools (FLIBS) as well as for IBICUS.
Vic Russell
Maths Standard Level
Vic Russell has been teaching Maths since 1987 - past schools include Wells Cathedral School, Dulwich International College Phuket, and Sutton Valence School. He has been at Oakham School in Rutland since 2000 teaching both IB and A level. Over the years he has held various positions – Housemaster, Head of Sixth Form – currently he spends a great deal of his non-contact time as the Academic Systems Manager at Oakham, maintaining and developing the school database.
He has run various IB and A level revision workshops for students and has worked with IBICUS running workshops for IB Maths teachers since 2004.
Caroline Meyrick
Maths Studies
Caroline Meyrick has taught HL, SL and Mathematical Studies SL at Oakham School since they started the Diploma Programme. She has acquired a particular interest in teaching Maths Studies and the wide range of students who opt for that syllabus, and is currently a member of the Curriculum Review team who are checking and revising this cycle. She also enjoyed being part of the Oakham ‘Thinking Matters’ team teaching TOK alongside the different maths syllabi. An IB assistant examiner since 1996, she has marked both paper 1 and paper 2 for Mathematical Studies, though is currently marking Maths SL for a change. She has led workshops and revision courses within the UK and in Europe.
Paul Stachowiak
Philosophy
Paul Stachowiak studied Philosophy and Theology both in the USA and in Europe. He was awarded the PhD degree by the University of Louvain, Belgium. Paul served as the Deputy Chief Examiner for Philosophy from 2004 to 2009. He currently serves as the Principal Examiner (English, French and Spanish) for Papers 2 and 3, Senior Examiner for the Philosophy Extended Essay and Moderator for the Philosophy Internal Assessment. He also holds the position of Faculty Member for Philosophy for the IB’s Online Curriculum Centre (OCC). Paul leads workshops for new and experienced Philosophy teachers throughout Europe and in the USA.
John Chilton
Physics
John is a Chartered Physicist who has been teaching Physics, Maths and IT for over 25 years. He has a PhD from Imperial College, London in condensed matter physics and worked for GEC-Marconi for 8 years as a Research Physicist before moving into full-time teaching.
He has been an Associate Lecturer in the Open University since 1987 teaching Physics, Astronomy and Planetary Science.
He is presently the Head of Physics at Oakham School, Rutland, he is an AS/A2 Examiner for OCR and for the IBO, has examined, moderated IA and marked extended essays.
Keith Ord
Physics
Keith Ord has been an IB examiner, moderator and workshop leader for over 10 years.
He is also the Heinneman IB joint author. Keith has taught IB physics in Oman, Belgium, Spain, UK and introduced the Diploma Programme in Kazakhstan and Egypt.
Jonathan Benison
DP Coordination
After graduating from Sussex University, UK, Jonathan spent many years in Italy, where he divided his time between various jobs and the equally serious business of raising a family. He taught for 18 years at the University of Padua and on specialist courses for translators, completed a PhD in Sociology of Literature from the University of Essex and published various articles on science fiction, postmodernism and teaching methodology, as well as editing annotated school editions of such classics as Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine.
Jonathan’s IB experience dates from 1989, when he started at Vicenza International School as a teacher of English B and Theory of Knowledge; he has been an IB Diploma Coordinator since 1997, first in Padua, Italy, and then, from 2003, at EAB International – The Victor Hugo School, in Paris. He currently teaches English A1 HL as well as Theory of Knowledge. He is an Assistant Examiner for English A1 and Theory of Knowledge, a workshop leader for DP Coordination and TOK and an IB Authorization Visit Team Member.
Declan Alvaro

Declan Alvaro has been a teacher of Physics and Mathematics for 25 years, the last 9 involved with the IB. He says "I have a passion for teaching that makes me love the job. Even though I once enjoyed teaching math more than physics, the IB has taught me how to enjoy physics and caused me to learn as much if not more than my students. Tim Kirk
Physics / DP Coordination
Tim graduated from Queens’ college, Cambridge and started his teaching career in schools in and around London, UK. He is currently Head of the Senior School at St. George’s School in Rome, a Senior IB Physics Examiner involved in paper setting and an IA moderator. Tim’s association with the IBO started during his time at Sevenoaks School, UK in the 1980s. Over the years, he has contributed to pupil assessment as Deputy Chief Examiner for Physics; teacher training as a seasoned workshop leader in Europe and the Americas; curriculum development, as a member of two curriculum review committees and participated in school accreditation visits. He was commissioned by Oxford University Press to write the IB Study Guide for Physics (2nd edition published December 2007) and the Physics Course Companion (2nd edition March 2010).
Sarah Dayal
Psychology
Sarah Dayal has a Masters in Psychology with a Bachelors in Education. She has more than 25 years of teaching experience, both at junior and senior level. As an IB Psychology teacher she has taught all components of the syllabus, supervised Extended Essays, internally moderated the IAs and prepared both HL and SL students for the Diploma Examinations. She attended the Subject Specific Workshop Leader training in Cardiff, 2007 in connection with the changing of the Psychology syllabus, which has been implemented since September 2009. In 2008 Sarah attended the General Workshop Leader Trainer Training, in Geneva and since then has conducted IB Psychology workshops, in Athens, Berlin (with IB) and UK (with Ibicus). Sarah is an IB Psychology Examiner. She marks Extended Essays and IB Psychology Paper2 exam scripts. From May 2010 she will be the Team Leader for examiners of IB Psychology Paper1 marking.
Susana Lopez Ruesga

Susana López Ruesga is a Spanish citizen living for the last 10 years in South Wales where she teaches Spanish A1, Spanish B (at Higher and Standard Level) and Spanish ab initio in UWC Atlantic College.
Susana has been an IB examiner of Spanish B SL Paper 2 and an Internal Assessment Moderator for the same subject and level for 6 years and a workshop leader for IBICUS for the last 4 years.
Almudena Talavera-Blanco

Almudena has been teaching IB Language B (Spanish and French) and A1 (Spanish) since 1998 in Hong Kong and the UK. She currently teaches at the UWC Atlantic College in South Wales. Almudena is an experienced group 2 teacher and is also an examiner and team leader for moderation. She has also led many workshops in Spanish B/Ab Initio in Europe and the Middle East.
Jose Prieto Borrego

José is currently the IBDP Coordinator in Swans International School, Marbella. He has been a Spanish examiner in different subjects and components for more than 15 years, including the Extended Essay. José is a workshop leader for both Spanish ab initio and Spanish B, having led workshops in Europe and the Middle East. He is also an IB Inspector. His teaching experience covers IB, IGCSE and the Spanish national curriculum. He holds Masters degrees in different aspects of education from Spanish as a Second Language to Spanish Theatre.
Carina Gambluch

Carina Gambluch is an English and Spanish teacher and has more than 14 years' experience. She has taught English in Argentina for 3 years and Spanish in England for 8 years. She currently lives in Barcelona and teaches English and Spanish as a foreign language. She has been an IB examiner for Spanish B for 5 years and has led workshops in England and Barcelona. She holds a Masters degree in Spanish teaching and a further Masters degree in English as a foreign language
Mike Pasternak
Theatre
Mike Pasternak is Coordinator of the Performing Arts department, La Châtaigneraie campus, International School of Geneva, Switzerland and has also taught in the UK and the Canadian state system. He has completed a two year Research Fellowship in Teacher Education at the Centre for Global Education, University of York, England specialising in the development of Theatre, and Interactive teaching and learning approaches for use across a range of disciplines. Mike has published several articles on human rights education, global education and interactive teaching methodologies and authored the chapter on values education in the University of Bath's seminal publication 'International Education - Principles and Practice'. For the past twelve years, Mike has served as a teacher trainer for IB Theatre and Theatre Arts in IBAEM, IBAP, IBA and is also Deputy Chief Examiner of the IB Theatre programme. Since the early 1980's, Mike has been actively involved with ISTA as an Ensemble/Workshop leader (1981), Executive Council member (1983), Executive Secretary (1985), President of the Board of Trustees (1998 to 2005) and Honorary Life Member (2005).
Bill Roberts
Theory of Knowledge
Bill Roberts has taught Theory of Knowledge for 12 years, firstly in Cairo, Egypt and most recently in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
He has worked as an examiner for ToK since 1999 and as a Senior Examiner since 2001. His subject specialism is mathematics. He has led more than ten workshops on ToK and is involved with the most recent curriculum review for the subject. Currently, Bill works at the University of Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K where he lectures in communication, culture, gender and identity.
Michael Woolman

Michael Woolman, an English A1 and ToK teacher, has taught in Kenya, New York, Hong Kong, London and Munich.. Based on his experience as a Diploma teacher and examiner he has written Ways of Knowing ( 1999, Revised 2006) an introduction to ToK and Commentary Writing (2005), a text preparing students for English A1 Paper 1. During the last decade he has lead ToK workshops arounf the world and also acted as a ToK consultant to individual schools, working with students and teachers.. He is currently a regular member of IBDiploma Authorisation teams, visiting schools who have applied to offer the Diploma.

Simon Poppy
Visual Arts
Simon Poppy has been Head of Creative Arts at Oakham School since 2000. Previously he was Head of Art at Gresham’s School in Norfolk and prior to that taught at KCS in London. His training is a painter (St Martin’s School of Art) and, as far is possible alongside full time teaching, sustains his own studio work which has, in recent years, been predominately intaglio printmaking. He has taught Visual Art for nine years and worked for the IBO as a Visual Arts visiting examiner and coursework moderator for the past four. He has been an A level examiner/moderator/team leader for OCR for 18 years (now specialising in Critical and Contextual Studies).
Heather McReynolds

Heather has taught IB Diploma Visual Arts for 13 years and was Head of Art at the International School of Florence. She has been a Visiting Art Examiner for IBO since 2005 and a Visual Arts Extended Essay Examiner and Internal Assessment Moderator. She has also contributed to the Visual Arts Subject Guide. Heather holds a Masters Degree in Fine Art from Central St Martins and degrees from Smith College, USA and the Academmia di Belle Arti di Firenze. She leads workshops for new and experienced Visual Arts teachers.
Heather currently lives in London, where she works part time for the IB and as a freelance artist educator and consultant. She is also a practicing visual artist and exhibits regularly in the UK and abroad
