About us
In 2003, while working as an IB Diploma coordinator, Jill Rutherford realised that training for IB Diploma teachers was sporadic, yet most teachers who attended workshops gained inspiration and came back revitalised. Ibicus started small with a few teachers getting together to share their ideas and Kevin Brown made it all possible with his business and communication skills. Lesley Beckingham (lesley@ibicus.org.uk) is the Administration Manager for the company, handling all your requirements.
We have run hundreds of subject workshops for thousands of teachers from schools in more than 100 countries, enhancing the provision that the regional IBAEM office gives for teacher training.
We don’t want to seem too missionary about the IB but we firmly believe in its philosophy and have seen that putting it into practice in schools changes the experience of the student and teacher for the better. The workshops are intensive but productive, as experience and feedback tell us that this is the way most of you like them. Groups are generally small so you have time to discuss your questions and most participants find that they leave the workshops with a network of new colleagues with whom they can continue sharing ideas. We know that teachers work hard and hope that you leave our workshops with concrete ideas to put into practice, some hints and tips on teaching the courses, some new colleagues and having had an experience that is inspirational or uplifting as well as a good time. We look forward to meeting you.
All Courses
Ibicus are among the leaders in IB teaching in the UK and from Europe. Our course tutors and workshop leaders are professional teachers, each with many years' IB teaching and examining experience.
Teacher Workshops
Each workshop is subject-specific, led by an experienced IB Diploma teacher (many of whom are IB examiners and/or official IBO workshop leaders) and covers all aspects of teaching the subject, from course design and best teaching practices to internal and external assessment. The philosophy of the IB and the core (Extended Essays, Theory of Knowledge and CAS in relation to the subject) will also be covered.
Student Courses
All our tutors are experienced IB teachers from various international schools and many are also IB examiners. Tutors are assigned to you at the start of the week and assess your requirements. Each day is structured to provide classes, exam practice and private study together with individual guidance on your requirements and time to reflect on your learning.
All subject-specific tutors are well-qualified to help you review the subject material and guide you in exam technique and understanding. All of our staff, many of whom have worked with us for a number of years, are selected for their qualifications, enthusiasm, experience, common sense and maturity. They are able to relate to young people and motivate them at this crucial and stressful time of their lives.
